Copper Chimney - Viviana Mall, Thane
Weekdays can be a little bit daunting when you have to decide where to lunch. Decided to check Copper Chimney's Thane outlet and was very much satisfied with the visit there.
On entering was shown to our table. The ambience is really good and it is definitely an upbeat place for family dining.
We ordered the following:-
MOCKTAILS:-
Delhi Shikanji:- A classic drink made by whipping up fresh lemon juice, mint leaves, and chaat masala. And boy does it taste good? Well absolutely Yes! The strong lemony mint flavor with that hint of the chaat masala is definitely worth trying.
Strawberry Chai Sherbet:- An iced tea infused with strawberry and apples.
Passion Fruit & Peach Frozen Margarita:- This is a sweet and tangy preparation made from passion fruit extract and peaches and classically blended with lemon and ice. The presentation of this drink was absolutely amazing with the drink presented in a salt-rimmed margarita glass. The taste was even more amazing. Definitely worth trying.
APPETIZERS:-
Kadak Roomali Chilli Masala Papad:- Very few places in the city serve Roomali Roti (a preparation of Handkerchief thin roti on an inverted tawa). The roti is toasted to a crispy form and topped with chili powder along with onions, tomatoes, and coriander along with a little bit of chaat masala. Apart from the classic chili papad, you can also opt from the various options with butter or cheese as well. The presentation is what makes this dish really stand out.
Hung Yoghurt Tikkis:- Absolutely yummy preparation of hung yogurt infused with chilies and cheese and coated with corn crumbs. Imagine biting into the crispy corn crumbs before the soft buttery hung yogurt hits your palate. So soft that it just melts in your mouth. Do definitely try this dish.
Bhatti Murg Tikka:- This is a classic Punjabi dish of chicken made in a Bhatti (tandoor) with lots of tandoor masala along with a dash of pepper powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The chicken was fresh and tender and was cooked really well.
Achari Mushroom:- A barbecued Haryanawi dish made with mushrooms and pickled spices.
Grilled Burrah Chops:- One of the main attractions at Copper Chimney's is this seared and chargrilled yet tender and juicy lamb chops. Initially, one of the original Copper Chimney signature dishes right from the time it started in 1972. This dish is influenced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (a province of Pakistan, located in the northwestern region of the country sharing international border with Afghanistan. This dish has been perfected over the decades. I was told that the lamb chops are actually marinated in the spices for over 8 hours and then it undergoes very skillful cooking to give that perfect flavour. The efforts are actually seen in the final dish that is kept in front of you. The meat is so tender and soft that it really melts the moment you bite into this Copper Chimney delicacy. Highly recommend this dish.
MAIN COURSE:-
Chowk Ke Subzi:- This is yet another dish like your tawa veg but the flavors more enhanced. Baby potatoes, brinjals, cauliflower, and peas are used to make this dish along with some potent spices that leave you wanting more. Highly recommend this dish.
Rogan Josh:- Copper Chimney signature classic dish of boneless lamb marinated in a secret 21-spice blend for 6 hours and slow cooked. The color of this thick gravy is actually because of the use of a special Kashmiri chilly spice-infused oil. One bit of these tender lamb and you just can't resist digging into it more. Absolutely worth every dime.
INDIAN BREADS:-
Wheat Roomali Roti:- Unlike the Roomali masala papad, this is a soft thin roti which is cooked on the inverted tawa. Traditionally Roomali roti is made by maida. In this case, they substituted it with Wheat.
Punjabi Onion & Mirchi Roti:- This dish will surely take you back through the Pinds or the villages of Punjab. Imagine your normal roti and then imagine it infused with spiced and onions, green chilies and coriander. One of their original dishes. Though over the period of time they have mellowed down on the spiciness of the roti (since not everyone can handle the spicy roti). I would have still preferred to have this roti as it was before when it got introduced ie Roti infused with onions, lots of green chilies and coriander.
DESSERTS:-
Almond Phirni Chikki Crumble:- This Indian dessert actually crushes all your imagination of what phirni is. I have had phirnis before but nothing like this one. This rice pudding was actually very very fresh and not very sweet at the same time. It was presented in a leaf-shaped ceramic bowl with Soan papdi, fresh Kiwi fruit, and Chikki. The combination of Kiwi fruit and also the Soan papdi along with the phirni is just amazing. However, in my personal opinion, the chikki was making the phirni too sweet. Probably the chikki can be replaced with some equivalent crunchy bites which is not very sweet or probably they can use a chikki which ain't this sweet. Overall this dish is quite good and does leave an impression in our minds.
Muzaffar:- This is one of the names that will remain in my mind till the next visit. Thick, Luscious and heartily indulgent rabdi presented in a leaf-shaped ceramic bowl with golden fried vermicelli. Now the dishes that we had since the time we arrived had got our tummy full and my friend couldn't even eat this more than a few spoons. I still managed to eat this truly yummiliciously divine rabdi and would have eaten another dish of the same yet again without complaining. A definitely must must have if you ever visit Copper Chimney.
Last but not the least a big shout out to Mr. Sunil and all the staff at Copper Chimney who ensured the hospitality extended was quite warm and welcoming. Mr Sunil also took time out to explain the history behind the signature Copper Chimney dishes. Also, I got to know that the Rotis that they dish out here are 100% vegetarian i.e. no eggs are used in the preparation of these Indian breads.
I would definitely visit this place if and when I crave for some authentic Indian cuisine.
