Dhe Puttu - Edappally, Kochi
Had been to Guruvayoor Temple, Thrissur and on our way back we had a flight to catch the next day morning. So we stayed at Marriott, Nedumbassery close to the airport. Didn't have much to do so went shopping at the famous Lulu Mall in Edappally and then decided to dine out before returning back to our hotel. Fired up Zomato App and checked all nearby places. But couldn't find anything worth a visit. That's when my eyes fell on Dhe Puttu and that suddenly brought back a conversation I had with a close relative about the place and the person who owns it. So we decided to give a visit there. Puttu in Malayalam is for Rice Cakes which are steamed in a cylindrical hollow vessel with coconut on both ends for a certain time.
Being a weekend it was already full and the wait time was nearly 30 to 45 mins. The place was lively mostly occupied with families and few couples. We were shown to our table and unlike other restaurants that I have been before here, they don't serve you water. They serve their signature Spiced Black Tea. Orders are placed and we sit and look around at the way the interior is designed which is mostly with pictures of the Mollywood Actor Dileep who owns it advertising the dish.
We are served with what we ordered and we dig into the stuff and actually enjoy the first bit (I am not a big fan of Puttu). But even I loved the combination in which these guys had approached the Puttu making which has actually taken it to the next level. We ordered for one more Puttu Dish along with a side dish while more Steaming Spiced Black Tea was being poured into my now empty glass.
Highly Recommended:-
If you are planning to visit this place on a weekend then please please do book your tables or else be prepared to wait for 30 mins minimum.
Chicken Biryani Puttu, Chicken Kheema Puttu, and Chicken Curry. (Sorry can't comment on the Duck, Beef, Mutton or Fish variants, as we only had chicken.)
My four stars for this place, food. Would definitely visit this place on my next visit to Kochi.
